About the RxP Project

The Oregon Psychological Association (OPA) (http://www.opa.org) is sponsoring this project, asking the Oregon legislature to grant prescription-writing authority to a limited number of qualified and trained psychologists.

Prescriptive authority granted under legislation expected to be introduced in the 2009 state legislature would allow psychologists to recommend medication as part of a patient’s mental health treatment options. Psychiatrists, family doctors and some nurses can write these prescriptions. But, psychologists can’t.

OPA is a not-for-profit statewide professional organization comprised of Oregon psychologists that advocates for psychologists on local, state and national issues affecting both the profession and the world we live in. OPA functions through the active volunteer work of its membership.
